Other bad things: no defrag. checkdisk only from boot disks. And, several more. Checkdisk can be run at boot time with the /F option if an issue occurs. Otherwise, it's not possible to run it with the /F option on the boot filesystem from the OS that booted from that filesystem. This is a safeguard.

NT startup options
When I got to the option to format hard drive I decided not to format it. Therefore I canceled the process. When I restarted the computer it booted from Vista and my computer was back to the way it was. However I still can't get the dual boot option. Now whenever I boot the computer by default it boots from vista.

Getting rid of NT 3.5 options in dual boot menu
Either a non-functional Continue with XP upgrade (top and hence default) or XP Home (bottom). Selecting XP Home loads a working copy of XP Pro. If WinXP is installed first, Vista's Setup will detect it and create the dual-boot arrangement automatically. It has been awhile since I have done this so there may be other options I'm not aware of. Also you won't be able to "just delete" the 2nd OS, you'll need to use the dual-boot configuration utility to remove it from the equation before you can 'get rid of it'. Q: Dual boot options
I'm sure I could dual-boot into another partition and manually copy the hives, but this seems really stupid. Doesn;t the system do this automatically anymore? Also, is there a nice small ERD anymore? I don;t want to run a huge backup set, IO just want to be able to avoid re-installing windows all the time.

Reinstall Windows
I'm told there is something wrong with my driver, then win freezes. With no safe mode, I'll have to revert to evil hacking methods to get it up again. :-) Can't you hold CTRL or press F8 while booting to get the startup mode menu ? Or if you are having problems with XP can you set the options in the NTLDR boot menu
